Strong snow storm swept Mt. Everest Base Camp areas.

Affected by the super cyclonic storm "Fehling " periphery diffusion cloud system from Bay of Bengal , a very strong snow and train storm took place on the 13th in southwestern Tibet, Shigatse. This morning, the Tibet Autonomous Region Meteorological Bureau released heavy snowfall orange warning signal.

Shigatse government said to China News agency that large-scale snowfall occurred around Tingri County and Everest Base Camp, depth is about 70-80 cm, 86 tourists stranded including 13 foreign tourists. Upon the message, Shigatse Prefectural Administrative Office immediately launched the emergency plan for the rescue.

According to Tingri County Deputy Magistrate's introduction, the continuous snowfall caused deep snow near Everest Base Camp, people have to be transferred to Tashi village where the snow is smaller; since the snow has not stopped yet, the rescue work comes with certain difficulties. Meanwhile, Tingri County dispatched dozens of rescue workers and several loaders, local border armies also help clearing snow, trying to rescue and evacuate everybody as soon as possible.

We are taking action to rescue the tourists and transfer them to safe place, though under such bad weather. Some officers are sent to the tourists to pacify and comfort them. No casualty report so far.

Jianhua Xu, the senior Meteorologist of Tibetan Observatory, said that, as the storm "Fehling" is in diffusion, there will be moderate snow or heavy snow in Naqu area and the south of Shigatse area. Besides,in south Shigatse area, there will be lasting heave snow or even bizzard, and there will be meteorological-geo damage from Zhangmu to East Asia. Meanwhile, there also will be snowy in the middle and east of Naqu area sice 13:00, 14th, Oct to 13:00, 15th, Oct.

user portrait Mr. David Jesus Dominguez Santos from: 7 Days Lhasa to Kathmandu Tour via Everest Base Camp
I am interested in the Lhasa tour with the Everest base camp ($830 p.p). I would like to ask you two questions:

1) The tour could be done starting on September 15th. I would arrive in Lhasa at 16:30 from the city of Kunming (in Kunming I would take a flight that departs at 1:30 p.m. on the same day 15).

2) On the 7th day, instead of going back to Lhasa, I would like to continue to Kathamandu. In other words, he would arrive in Kathmandu on the 21st at night. Would this change be possible?

3) If there is no problem with these changes, I would like to confirm the tour and the payment method, since I need the paperwork to make the China Visa.

We are 2 persons interested.

Many thanks

regards

David

user portrait Ms. Diane Costa from: 4 Days Lhasa Holy Landmarks Express
Hello,

I am Canadian and my husband is American.  We will be in Kathmandu Nepal and want to fly to Tibet for the August 8th "4 Days Lhasa Holy Landmarks Express" tour.

If we arrive by air what do we need in terms of visas? Do we have to apply for anything in Nepal? Or do we get the visa at the airport/or through your company once in Tibet?
Answered by Helen

Dear Ms. Diane Costa

Thanks very much for your inquiry. Entering Tibet from Kathmandu, you need one Chinese group visa. Firstly, we will require your passport (clear scan or photo copy) to apply for the visa invitation letter. Secondly, we will send the visa invitation letter to you and our partner in Kathmandu. Next, when you arrive in Kathmandu, you need to meet with our partner and give your original passport to him, and he will assist you to apply for the Chinese group visa there. Please kindly note that the Chinese group visa application needs 3 or 4 working days, please leave yourself enough time to apply for it in Kathmandu. Apart from the Chinese group visa, you also need the Tibet Permit, and we’ll apply for it for you in Lhasa, and our guide will pick you up at Lhasa airport with the permit. Best regards.
