Part 3: Impact to Tibet tourism in 2020

Tibet, the land of snow, is still very cold in February and March in most of places with not many tourists. If this virus can be controlled in one or two months, the impact to Tibet tourism will not be big since the best time to travel to Tibet is from April to October when temperature is warm on plateau. Almost 90% of travelers to Tibet visit Tibet during this period of time.

However, if the epidemic still cannot be eliminated in short term, the impact will not be small since, nowadays, tourism has already become one of the backbone industries in Tibet. The worst situation would be all the people in the Tibet tourism in 2020 cannot work, including people in travel agency, vehicle company, tour guide, hotels, restaurant, theater and etc.

Part 4: Advice and tips

1. The medical facilities in Tibet is not as good as those in China, plus the lower oxygen level on plateau could probably worsen the illness, so we strongly not advise you to travel to Tibet until the Chinese government totally clears the control.

2. To plan your Tibet tour, you may book air tickets in advance, before getting definite official information from government, please do not book any air ticket or tour in advance.

3. During this special period, if not a must, we advise you not come to China and Tibet just in case. But mostly you will be safe with mask on.

4. Some oversea cases confirmed too recently, we advise wear a mask and avoid crowdy places.

5. The best time to travel Tibet is from April to October, if you have booked a tour to Tibet this year, say in April or May, you don’t hurry to cancel it. You can wait some more time to see how the situation goes or negotiate with your travel agency to postpone the trip. If you must cancel the trip, normally, your travel agency has to refund you in full.

6. Considering the uncertainty of the coronavirus this year, tourists may miss the best times like April and May. But it is also advisable to travel Tibet in other months. If you just plan to visit Lhasa and Shigatse, all year round is good for you to travel. If you want to go to remote area such as Mount Everest or Mount Kailash, the golden time is September or early October when the weather is warm and without rain, you will have a great chance to view the clear summit of mountains and enjoy the marvelous scenery of all Himalaya ranges.

May Sacred Mount Kailash brings you health and good luck

To conclude, Tibet is just temporarily closed to tourists for their safety concerns. Now Tibet is very safe also before the epidemic because our government has undertaken all necessary measures to prevent any possible transmission. All the efforts made at great cost now is just for your next trip to Tibet in a relax and delightful manner. The hospitable people, responsible government on this mysterious and wonderful holy land couldn’t wait to see you in near future. Ms. Ho*** from: When to get my Tibet permit
January 15, 2020 05:11

Hello, we are considering to travel in Tibet in summer. We are a family of 5, two adults and three kids, age 13(then), 10, 8. We are interested in the 10 days Mt. EBC & Namtso Lake Group tour. We are US citizens with valid 10-year Chinese multiple entry visa, which we have applied when we went to Beijing in 2019. We are currently living in South Korea.

Questions:

1. Are kids suitable (or even allowed) for this tour?

2. If kids can join, are there any discount deals for kids?

Dear Ms. Ho***,

Greetings from Helen at Budget Tibet Tour and welcome you to join our 10 days Mt. Everest & Namtso Lake group tour. For your questions: 1. Your kids are suitable for this tour. Travelling in Tibet is as safe for kids as it is for their parents. While the high Tibetan plateau may be the highest place on the planet, very often, the kids that visit this region are more adaptable and have fewer problems than their parents. We also have arranged wonderful Tibet tours for many families with kids such as a tour to EBC for a family with a 3-year-old son, a 9-year-old girl and a 11-year-old boy, they did have fun in Tibet and there is no problem for them. Or you can take some medicine under the guidance of doctor to prevent high altitude before enter Tibet. 2. If kids travel with you, we'll offer some discount for them, please check your email and find more detailed information. Thanks & Regards
