Heavy Snow hit southern Tibet

Potala Palace after the Snow

China's meteorological department forecast Friday that snow and sleet were likely to hit central and east China in the next three days due to the co-influence of cold air and southwest warm moist airflow.

There will be light to moderate snow or sleet in some parts of northwest and northern regions, the Yellow River and Huaihe River valleys, the Yangtze and Huaihe River valleys, central and northern part of the Yangtze and Hanjiang River valleys as well as the northeastern part of southern China. Heavy snowfall may occur in some of the areas.

Western part of Central China's Hunan province and eastern part of southwest Chinas's Guizhou province were expected to have freezing rain.

From Friday to Saturday, southern part of Tibet will encounter heavy snowfall or even blizzards, while the temperature on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau may drop drastically by six to 10 degrees Celsius or 12 degrees Celsius in some places, accompanied by strong wind.

It is necessary to take measures to prevent cold and keep warm in time. If you are walking on your own, you should prepare anti-freezing equipment for warm clothes and quilts, drinking water, dry food, flashlights, fire equipment and traffic equipment. Keep away from billboards, makeshift structures and old trees outside to avoid being stung. Be careful when passing under the bridge, eaves, etc., if necessary, you can bypass the road, so when we go out to enjoy the beautiful scenery, we must first ensure our own safety while enjoying the beautiful sceneries.

Hi, I plan to arrive in Lhasa on the 9th of March in 2020 by train and would like to do a 4 day tour. Unfortunately there are no tours scheduled between January and April, will there be tours added or are there not any planned?

Kind regards

Julian Franz

Hello Mr. Ju***,

Thanks very much for your inquiry. We currently have no group tour in February and March, if you would like to travel Tibet in these months, we are able to arrange a private tour for you. While there are several confirmed departure date for the group tour in January and April, if your time is flexible, you may consider joining a group tour in April. I will send detailed itinerary to your email, please check it. Warm regards.
