The Key Protected Wildlife in the Qiangtang Nature Reserve

In 1993, the district approved the establishment of Qiangtang nature reserve as an autonomous region level nature reserve. In 2000, it was promoted to national nature reserve. In more than 20 years, through the tireless efforts of all departments at all levels in our district, the focus of the protected area to protect wildlife population increased, the Tibetan antelope population increased from 50,000 to 70,000, it’s now more than 200,000. Wild yak, also has reached to 10,000, Tibetan wild ass increased from 30,000 to more than 90,000, snow leopard, argali, black-necked cranes and other wild animals restorative growth significantly.

Protection area covers the Amdo, Nima and other five counties, with a total area of 298,000 square kilometers, belongs to the plateau desert ecosystem and wildlife nature reserve, is currently the largest nature reserve in our country, is also one of 25 national key ecological function areas in our country, has been hailed as a "climate stabilizer" and "cold biological germplasm Banks". The reserve has been in existence for more than 20 years, through the unremitting efforts of all levels and departments in the area, the infrastructure has been improved, the management and protection forces have been continuously strengthened, the scientific research monitoring level has been gradually improved, and the protection efforts in accordance with the law have been continuously increased. The typical ecosystems in the region, such as alpine deserts and wetlands, have maintained stability, and the vegetation coverage has been increasing, effectively curbing the trend of grassland degradation and land desertification, and playing an important role in maintaining regional ecological security.
